ATTENTION!!
The Massachussetts Junior Racquetball Team Needs Sponsors!!
In 1998, the Junior National Championships are being held in Portland, Oregon, on July
3rd.  The Massachussetts Junior Racquetball Team is in desperate need of funding for
travel, playing fees, and general expenses.  We can only squeeze The Massachussetts
Racquetball Association for so much money.
If you own a business in Massachussetts and would like to become an official sponsor, or
are just a kind hearted civilian and would like to make donations to help us get to
Oregon, please e-mail Kyle Harris, Casey O'Conner or Rob Simmons for details.
What is in it for you?  You will become an official sponsor with your name or business
printed on the back of our team shirts, and your name or business will be featured in the
annual MRA Newsletter, commending you for your generosity.

 OLD NEWS
March 8 - March 23
We just got back from Jr. Regionals in Briarcliff New York.  I will send you the results in a couple of days.  Here is a summary of the tournament.
The Boys 14/12 and under division was a clash of the titans.  JuliannaMoyer took home first place defeating Cari Militsky in the tiebreaker. The Girls 10 and under division was rematch of the New York State Singles.  This time it was the opposite time around.  Rebecca Kopf won this Cara Mazur on the losing end.In the Boys 18 and under division Steve Mykalcio from New York demolished the round robin field.
The Boys 16 and under was a dogfight to the very end with Scott "Flute" Fisher pulling out a heartbreaking second game over the Massachusett boy wonder Joey Delfino.  Joey played his heart out to the very but the strong service game of Fisher and an awful cold prevented Joey from beating Scott for the second year in a row.
The Boys 14 and under division was easily won by Josh Epstein of New York.  His desire to win was too much for Marc Moccia.  Josh won the finals over Marc in two straight games.
In the Boys 12 and under division Eddie Mazur of Connecticut upset David Laforest of New York.  The ten and under division was a repeat of the Massachusetts Jr. State Singles with Mike Keddie the champion and Nate Dyer the runner up.
The Boys 8 and under singles and the multi bounce were won by Matt Keddie from New Hampshire.
The 18/16 and under doubles was dramatic.  Steve Mykalcio and Raoul Thomas brought home the championship defeating Scott Forest and Sanjay Laforest four games in a row in the double elimination format.  This victory avenged an earlier loss.
The 14 and under doubles was won by Matt and Marc Moccia.  They held off the tough boy/girl team of Josh Epstein and Julianna Moyer.  They won the first game eleven to ten and then brought the opponents out for donuts and coffee.
The  12/10 and under doubles was no contest for Mike Keddie and Eddie Mazur.  They dominated the round robin format with Nate Dyer and Andrew Kopf coming in second place.
The 16/14 mixed was a war.  Josh Epstein was on a mission from God with his partner Julianna Moyer upending the rookie team of CaseyO'Connor 11-8 in the tiebreaker.  Cheap calls were the key to this match.  A few bounces here and some avoidables there changed the whole match around.
The 12 and under mixed doubles was won by Cara Mazur and Mike Keddie. The sister and brother team of Andrew Kopf and Rebecca Kopf came in second place.
Thanks,
 March 1-March 7
The Junior Racquetball season is at its prime.  This past weekend the Team Massachusetts Juniors played in the Adult State Singles at Cedardale in Haverhill Massachusetts.  Joey Delfino carried home first place in the A's with eleven to seven win in the third game over Tony Rella from Waverly Oaks.  Just last week Mike and Matt Keddie played at the IRT Pro Stop at King George Athletic Club in New Jersey.  Mike brought home the first place prize in the twelve and under division.  He also came in second place in the fourteen and under division to Adrian Anulewicz from Connecticut.  Adrian did this just two weeks after him and his brother Adam won their respective divisions at Icicle Open in
Allentown Pennsylvania.  This coming weekend junior players from Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts will be competing in the Massachusetts Junior State Singles.  Also this week Meghan Guardiani will be playing at Wilson National High School Championships in St. Louis Missouri.  Good Luck Meghan.  Good luck to everyone.  All results will be posted next week in the Jr.Racquetball Flash.
