New Farmers' Markets Opening in 2004

Go to the archives for new market announcements for the 2003 season.

The Lewiston Farmers' Market will be opening in Kennedy Park on June 7! We will be at market every Monday afternoon from 2-6pm through November 1st. We are currently looking for more vendors to help round out the market, especially those who may be able to offer Red Meats, Poultry, Seafood, Cheeses, Milk, Craft Items, Seeds & Seedlings, and especially we would like to find a CSA farm to join us. Please contact Sean Gambrel at 882-7552 ext. 185 or scg@ceimaine.org for more information. You may download a copy of the application, rules and by-laws in Microsoft Word format here.

South Portland: John Bliss (207-799-7225) of Turkey Hill Farm says, "We may join the South Portland Market at the Mall, but we would much rather see a Market in downtown South Portland. If there are any other farmers interested in this, or any community members that can lend support to this end, we would like to begin talking about it."

Waterville. Hello Farmers - This message is being sent to farmers in Kennebec, Somerset, Franklin and Lincoln counties to get an idea of who might have an interest in a downtown Waterville farmers' market. This is VERY preliminary - there is no plan - but there is community initiated interest in the possibility of starting a farmers' market either this season or next. Waterville Main Street is coordinating the initial research to assess interest and get the ball rolling (if it wants to roll).

If you have an interest (or not), please respond to this very quick survey by return e-mail. I will pass the information on to the folks in Waterville so they can get a rough idea of whether and how many farms even want to be in on the discussion.

Please feel free to add any comments in addition to answering the questions.

Thank you and best wishes.

- Deanne Herman

PS - Shannon Haines (Executive Director of Waterville Main Street) can be reached directly by e-mail at: shannon@watervillemainstreet.org or by calling 207-680-2055.

Norway Farmers' Market looking for new members
(Received 7-Dec-03) The market season was a great success in Norway, the location move and time change, increased foot traffic dramatically and sales for most vendors doubled or more. We still have room to grow in membership, farms interested in joining can get in contact at verrill@exploremaine.com.
At the present time the Norway Farmers' Market is trying to improve in several areas. We have just elected to hold our Farmers' Market on Thursdays from 2-6 pm, we have approved a new location that will provide for more vendors and provide for eaiser customer access and parking in L.M. Longley's parking lot on Deering Street.
We are currently looking for new members, we have a forty-five mile limit for accepting applications, other than that rule we are open to growers of all agriculture products and value added items.
If you would please list us on your web-site, it would be appreciatated.
Just want to let you know I use the MFFM web site alot for needed help & information, "thank you" for providing it.
Contact me if you need more information. Sincerely, Pat Verrill, verrill@exploremaine.com
