The sandy beach is now protected with buffer plants. Sixth graders worked at the Pismo Beach site from 1999-2001 on environmental projects. The boat landing was improved by adding lock blocks. This was done over a two year span. Buffer planting was a big part of this entire project. Erosion control was handled by improving ditch sites. The Pismo Beach Project has now been taken over by third graders. Every year they take plants they have grown and place them under the recreation park sign. They learn about the watershed from a TLEA volunteer who uses a watershed model. They also pick up trash and do other types of maintenance as necessary. Sixth graders are now working at Agassiz Village in Poland. This will be our third year. |
