A Youthful
Perspective Of
Psychology
What
is psychology?(overview)
BeforeI was assigned to research
this topic, I had a fixed mental view of whatI thought psychology was.
From what the entertainment industry portrayedto me all my life was the
$400 dollar an hour sessions with a patient who needed help sorting a problem
in their life. I pictured myself sittingon a professional looking
sofa across from the patient while we discusses aloud the feelings that
the hardening troubles brought about. Yet,this clearly vague perspective,
I soon realized was merely a tiny portion of the diverse and complex field
of psychology.
Psychology has an open ended definition that branches into many other views
and topics. Psychology is a combination of philosophy and sociology that
aims to describehow we feel, act, and think. Psychology is broken
down into numerous other perspectives, the largest being neuroscience,
evolutionary views, behavioral
genetics,behavioral observation,cognitive,
and social cultural.
