Job Shadow Experience
I conducted
a job shadow/interview with a high school counselor. She described
her education to be titled a counselor as follows. She recieved her
undergraduate B/A degree in communication studies and interpersonal communications/sociology.
Her graduate degree was a Master of Education with a major in school counseling.
She also took neuropsych cources.
She
described her career relationship to psychology as providing counseling
for a short term basis ( most psych counseling is long term ), and said
her job uses all the " basic foundations of psych." She also works
closely with psychologist and social workers. Many psych concentrations
are part of her career, including depression and behavior.
This
is just one example of a job in the work force that uses psychology.
I would like to thank this counselor for her time. She is excellent
at what she does and a great role model for the younger psych generations.
