My Interview with an O.T.

Part of our project was to do an interview or to job shadow                 somebody in the profession.  The occupational therapist that I job shadowed was very nice.  Her name was Dr. Joanne Eaton and she made the day incredibly interesting, thank you very much Joanne.  I got there at the Goodall Regional Wellness Center at 2:15 and stayed until 4:00.  While I was with her she saw three patients.  I was told a story about a man who hurt his hand in a roller and could barely move his hand.  After a couple weeks with Dr. Eaton he could move every finger almost as well as the other hand.

I think that the coolest thing about o.t. is all the inventions that are made for these patients to make their lives easier.  Like thera putty to work the hand muscles.  This hot wax which was so awesome, you dipped your hand in this hot wax that looked like water but after it cooled on your hand it like made your hand tingle.  That meant you had good circulation.  She showed me how they use a sonogram, very different then the one used on pregnant ladies.  They use electric currents to stimulate the muscles.

Thank you very much again for letting me be your shadow Joanne.  This was really fun and interesting.  The most important thing that she taught me was that she went to college for something totally different for many years and ended up doing o.t. because that is something she really wanted to do.  So for all you fretting about what you are going to do, relax.  You always have time to do what you like.
