Simple Dog Biscuit Recipe
(with thanks to Dog In Sight Magazine)
Brewer's yeast is a natural anti-flea remedy.
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or combination of wheat/rye flour)
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 cup brewer’s yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup chicken or beef broth (if canned, use low sodium)
Heat oven to 400 ° F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper (or grease the pan). Mix flour, wheat germ, brewer’s yeast, and salt together in a medium bowl. In another mixing bowl, combine oil and garlic. Alternately add 1 cup chicken stock and flour mixture in 3 parts; mix until well combined. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead about 2 minutes by hand. The dough will be sticky. Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out various shapes and place on prepared baking sheets. Bake 20 - 25 minutes. Turn off oven, leaving oven door closed. Leave pan in oven for 1 1/2 hours or up to overnight to allow the treats to dry. Store the treats in zip-closure bags in the refrigerator, or you can freeze them as well.
