It's My Party and I'll Bounce If I Want To

You wouldn't believe what my mom did for me. She spent all of Friday evening and Saturday morning running around inside and outside the house, so I knew something was up. And she got out all of the cookies (yum!) and liver brownies (yum, yum, YUM!) that she has made, and put chairs all over the yard. Then, 12 beardies started arriving! My camping buddy, Dropshot, was there, and so were Chauncy, and Andy, and Dexter. (Mom said I had to mention them, since you might know them.) And my friend Tess, the miniature schnauzer, and Rainey, the flat-coat. (They both had a hard time figuring out which beardie was ME!) To tell you the truth, it was so exciting, I was a little bit overwhelmed at first.

And we played some of the games we played at dog camp. First we played the bobbing-for-hot-dogs-relay. There were 3 teams, and we ran with our humans to a big pan of water, reached in and grabbed a hot dog. (Some of us grabbed fast, some slow, and Rainey grabbed every one she could reach.) Then we ran back and the next dog went. Team number 1 won. That wasn't my team, but I grabbed really fast when it was my turn.

Then the humans played alone for a few minutes. They called it "square dancing." I think mom was teaching them how to do this, but maybe not, since I never saw her give them any treats. All of us dogs wanted to play too, so we ran in. Then they got us dogs, and we did it with them. It involved lots of dancing around between humans and dogs. But my mom was the "caller", and so I didn't play. I helped out by lying down inside one of the squares for a while. Then mom turned on the music [Mom's note: Chet Atkins--Country Gentlemen], and they did it again. They were all laughing like mad, so I enjoyed it too.

Then they gave us more treats, and the humans ate cake and ice cream, and fruits. Then we played the "dress up race." This is not fun--it's just dumb. But mom laughed a whole lot so I humored her. We lined up on one side of the lawn, then raced across the lawn. Mom made me do a down, and then she grabbed a bag. First she stuffed a shirt on me, then she tried to get all of these socks on my feet. Really! Then we started back (she was still laughing), and all the socks fell off. (Thank Dog!) So she kept stopping and putting them back on me. But Tess was back fastest, and she looked really cute in boy's shorts and a little shirt.

After most people left, Marsha played fetch with Dropshot. I don't much care for fetch, but I like to herd Dropshot. But if Dropshot notices that he is being herded, he gets annoyed, so I only herd him until he notices that I am doing it.

It was a very exciting day. Mom says to tell you that people weren't supposed to bring birthday presents for me. Instead they brought gifts for beardie rescue. She says we have $145 for poor beardies to send to Paul Glatzer. Fortunately, some people brought some good stuff, too. I got a whole big box of liver brownies, and I got some chewies, too, and a lamb. (Nice, but it wasn't really a lamb.)

I am pooped. It was a wonderful day.

Bryna (Now I am 2, for sure!)
