AKC Canine Good Citizen Test
I have always been a strong advocate for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. It's the one title that all dogs can earn, whether purebred or mixed breed, whether a competition partner or the family pet, whether well brought up or rescued. Earning a CGC shows people — including landlords and homeowners' insurance companies — that your dog knows basic obedience commands, and that you have taken the time to work with your dog.
Often, dog/owner teams who earn the CGC become inspired to go on and do more. Some become animal-assisted therapy teams. Some continue with obedience training or other competition sports. No matter what you decide to do once the test is over, you can always look with pride at your certificate from the AKC and know that you and your dog have really accomplished something.
2012 AKC Canine Good Citizen Test Dates
I will be conducting CGC tests at the following locations in 2012:
- July 28: Central Maine Brittany Club, Fryeburg/Brownfield, ME (tentative)
- September TBD: Meet the Breeds, Tractor Supply, Scarborough, ME
Unfortunately, I won't be able to test at the NEOESR picnic this year, due to an event conflict on June 2.
If your Maine- or NH-based dog club or organization would like to offer CGC testing, please feel free to contact me.
