The Sanford Police Department
is composed of 3 Command Staff Officers, 29 Patrol Officers, 4
Detectives, 2 School Resource Officers, 1 Juvenile Officer, 1 DARE Officer, 12
Dispatchers, 1 Animal Control Officer and 4 Clerical
Personnel.
The Sanford Police Department E911 Emergency Communications
Center dispatches for Police, Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management Services. The
Center also handles all in-coming telephone calls of both emergency and non-emergency
nature, handles TTD (hearing impaired) calls, and administers the teletype services.
In addition to normal duties, police officers also have

Officers patrol 54
square miles of territory for the Town of Sanford/Village of Springvale and handles an
approximate average of 35,000 calls-for-service per year. The population is
approximately 26,000 with seasonal increases. Three major state highways intersect
the town, Rt. 109, Rt. 202 and Rt. 4. The town is situated in the valley formed by
the Mousam River.
The town borders Alfred, Acton, Lebanon,
Kennebunk, North Berwick, Shapleigh, and Wells. Sanford/Springvale is in the
southern most county of York.
