Lest We Forget....
The Criminal Investigation Division has an active investigation involving the
burglary of G.M. Pollack jewelry store at the Center for Shopping. The
burglary occurred on Sunday morning, September 1, 2002. A quantity of gold
rings, necklaces and other jewelry was stolen.

During the weekend, person(s) unknown broke into the residence of Richard and
Carol Levesque. Items stolen include a Sony 32" screen TV, JVC surround sound
system, Casio telephone and answering machine, boys clothing (size 10),
blenders, toasters, several thousand baseball and football cards, assorted change (coins),
a red Polaris 2000 ATV, Pioneer CD player, several DVD's, and a Nintendo 64 with
several games.

On a rural country back road, unknown person or persons entered the dilapitated family home of Malcolm Hobbs. Hobbs, a friendly elderly recluse, lived by himself. His brother died a few years ago. Once inside, the perpetrator(s) savagely killed the old man. The cause of death remains a closely guarded secret of the Maine State Police and other law enforcement investigators.

This burglary is believed to have occurred between May 25-28, 1996. Person or persons unknown, broke into the Sanford Highway Department and stole assorted tools and equipment valued in the thousands of dollars. A door panel was kicked in and the perpetrators entered the building.

This incident is believed to have occurred during the night of April 24/25, 1996. Person or persons unknown, released calcium valued at $4000.00, from a holding tank on the property of Genest Concrete on Route #4 in South Sanford. A building was also burglarized and several gas cans and a chainfall were stolen. The chainfall has a blue emblem on it.

On March 15, 1996, Shaw's Ridge Equipment on Rt. #224, reported the theft of a John Deere GX75 riding lawnmower valued at $1895.00. The mower was part of a shipment and was discovered missing during routine inventory.

While stopped at a traffic light in Springvale, an unidentified white male allegedly entered the female victim's car and at knifepoint, ordered her to drive to a secluded location. A second vehicle described as a blue truck with a white cap and CB antenna followed. The victim was assaulted and received superficial scratches and cuts before managing to escape her captors.

On March 15, 1996, after an intensive investigation by the Sanford Police Department and the York County Sheriff's Department in which officers followed-up on hundreds of leads called in by citizens, and after an alleged suspect (identified by the alleged victim) hired an attorney and took a polygraph examination, the alleged victim finally confessed that she had fabricated the entire story to get attention. The perpetrator of the hoax has been charged with a criminal violation.
