Waldoboro is a quiet, small village located on the Medomak River, midway between Damariscotta and Rockland and is about ten miles inland from the fishing village of Friendship.

In the village, a five minute stroll from the Roaring Lion, is an old fashioned 5&10 Variety store, a craft store, a drug store, a hardware store, a pizza shop and a store where you can get your photos enlarged. And, of course, there is the famous "Moody's" diner, just four tenths of a mile from our house. Within a 15-minute drive in either direction there are several very good restaurants which also offer vegetarian entrees.

Also in the village and less than a five-minute walk are tennis courts and there is fishing at the river. Drive for 30 minutes and you can swim where there is a beautiful white sand ocean beach. 20 minutes in the other direction is another sand beach and fresh water swimming. During the winter there is ice fishing on the river and the lakes. Leave the front door of the Roaring Lion in winter, strap on your skis and be on the trails within five minutes. There are miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails that the local club has invited us to use for skiing.

Interested in history? Walk five minutes and you arrive at the Waldoboro Historical Society Museum. Two miles away, across the river is the historic German Church founded by the settlers of Waldoboro. Within a 30-minute drive there are over 20 museums or historic sites to see. Down the street from our house is the historic Waldo Theatre, which recently was completely restored, and you can see live performances and movies.

Interested in the arts? In the Roaring Lion there is a small gallery. One of our many awards include "Best Art Collection". There are other galleries in Waldoboro and within a 30 minute drive there are over 20 galleries.

For a change of pace, walk through the village, browse the shops, or visit the library or historical museum. Enjoy the theater and restaurants in town.
