The wang-liangs are a rather interesting monster, evidently derived from Chinese folklore. They were first described for AD&D in a 1989 Dragon Magazine article by Sylvia Li. They were later updated for 2nd Edition in the Kara-Tura Monstrous Compendium, and reappeared yet again in the 3e Oriental Adventures hardcover. We in turn have updated them for 3.5 and written them up as a Savage Species monster class.

The wang-liangs are an ancient race of giants in decline, closely related to the ogre magi. Wang-liangs are exceptionally intelligent and long-lived, with their own unique brand of magic. They are implacably hostile to human beings and rarely pass up a chance to kill, injure, humiliate, or frighten them. Toward humans, their behavior is destructive; among their own kind, there are no known instances of cruelty to each other. The wang-liangs pay their debts and keep their promises.
Physically, wang-liangs stand about 10 feet tall and weigh around 600 pounds. Their bodies are covered with soft pelts of lustrous dark brown or black hair, including a great mat on top of their heads; males also sport long dark beards. Their catlike eyes are wide and large, having black irises rimmed with luminous, fiery red. They have the sharp, pointed teeth of a carnivore set in a protruding and delicate muzzle.
The wang-liang's class skills are Climb (Str), Intimidate (Cha), Listen (Wis), and Spot (Wis).
All of the following are class features of the wang-liang monster class.
