The * Frilond * Campaign
Hutaakan Temple Ghoul

This is a conversion of an interesting ghoul variant from the classic Basic D&D Module B10, Night’s Dark Terror by Jim Bambra, Graeme Morris, and Phil Gallagher.

This slender, hunched, humanoid creature is wrapped all in yellowed, tattered cerecloth, over which are hung long, somber-colored and moldy robes. Its shrouded head appears almost jackal-like.

Aversion to Daylight (Ex) If exposed to natural daylight (not merely a daylight spell), Hutaakan temple ghouls take a -4 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks.

Ghoul Fever (Su) Disease—bite, Fortitude DC 15, incubation period 1 day, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex. The save DC is Charisma-based. An afflicted humanoid who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight. A humanoid who becomes a ghoul in this way retains none of the abilities it possessed in life. It is not under the control of any other ghouls, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal ghoul in all respects. A humanoid of 4 Hit Dice or more rises as a ghast, not a ghoul.

Paralysis (Ex) Those hit by a Hutaakan temple ghoul’s bite or claw attack must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds. Even elves can be affected by this paralysis. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Rebuke Undead (Su) A Hutaakan temple ghoul can rebuke or command undead as an 8th-level cleric.

Repulsive Visage (Su) At the mere sight of a Hutaakan temple ghoul, the viewer must succeed on a DC 15 Will save or become shaken for 1d4 rounds. Whether or not the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by the same temple ghoul’s repulsive visage ability for 24 hours. The save DC is Charisma-based.

These rarely encountered undead are never found far from the ruins of ancient Hutaakan Temples, which they haunt along with their numerous undead servants.
