Placement of Evard's Black Tentacles

Each tentacle has a Strength score of 19 and is immune to spells that don't cause damage (other than disintegrate).
The tentacles first take action on the caster's turn, starting the round after they appear. Each round, any tentacle that is not already grappling makes a grapple attack at a random creature or object within 10 feet of it. The tentacles do not attack each other, nor do they attack anything smaller than a Medium-size creature. The tentacles receive normal Attacks of Opportunity for creatures moving through their threatened area.
The attacks are like regular grappling attacks, except that they don't provoke attacks of opportunity from opponents and cause normal, rather than subdual, damage. A tentacle maintains its grapple even after its subject is dying or dead.

Of all sorcerer and wizard spells, Evard's black tentacles has one of the coolest effects: a clutch of tentacles suddenly erupts from the ground, flailing and grasping for anything within reach. Unfortunately, this is also one of the more complicated spells to resolve, since the DM has to quickly determine the number, placement, and stats of numerous tentacles.

To help speed up resolution of this spell, we developed the following tool. Just choose the caster's level, click "Place," and presto—a handy little diagram showing the location and number of tentacles within each 5-ft grid. We recommend printing off a dozen or so different diagrams ahead of time. Then, when the spell is cast, the caster simply picks the center of effect, draws from a stack of prepared diagrams, and you're good to go.
