In Frilond, time is an inexact quantity. People do not care exactly what time it is; they only want to know how much daylight is left. In towns, the time is usually kept by the ringing of church bells. The bells are normally the only timekeeper for the townsmen. Church bells do not sound on every hour, but at roughly three-hour intervals, each marking an office of the church. The eight services of canonical office celebrated by the Church of the Five are:

1. Matins at midnight
2. Lauds at 3 am
3. Prime at 6 am
4. Tierce at 9 am
5. Sext at midday
6. None at 3 pm
7. Vespers at 6 pm
8. Compline at 9 pm

There are also sundials and clepsydras (water-clocks), but mechanical clocks have not been developed.
