Adventure 19: The Wonderful Things He Does
Continued from A Rock Feels No Pain.

The Vavasor, an arrogant man of aristocratic bearing, visits the apartment to inspect the stone Valerius. The party prepares for a foray into the Westwoode: they hire Cyrus the teamster and a cart, and also commission Hedric the woodsman to guide them, though he insists that he'll take the job only on the grounds of "no weird stuff."

The first day into the Westwoode passes without event, though in the evening the party is strafed by a flying formation of glowing motes that mysteriously disappear into the night.

The next day the party is diverted by some strange sounds in the forest. Upon investigation, they discover a tiny little door in the trunk of a great oak tree. Sharp ears seem to hear strange sounds from within the tree. St. James is unable to get the door open, and something drops acorns down on his head. Annoyed, St. James climbs the tree—but has a pot of piss dumped on him. Hamral investigates, but is pushed off a tree limb and takes a tumble. The party decides to give up on this pursuit.

Later in the day, as dusk settles over the wilderness, the party spies a small white pig rooting at the base of a tree. The pig begins barking like a dog before suddenly disappearing. Mot rushes to where the pig was, and digs himself, eventually unearthing a weird mushroom which he wolfs down. Suddenly, Mot stands up straight, his eyes clear. Mot begins to speak lucidly, but hardly are a few words out when he begins to stammer and slouch again, and is soon back to normal.

That night, the party is awakened to weird, lucent eyes staring at them from the darkened forest. Hundreds of eyes seem to appear all around. Friar Sidrach calls upon the Five and casts a radiant light in the dark forest. The eyes are instantly dispelled, and no one can find any tracks.

In the morning, the party stumbles upon a strange path made of crushed white stone, running through the middle of the Westwoode. And there is a raven, sitting on a tree limb, watching all. He murmurs some words, and takes off, the party following along the white path. They come across a little well, and a little later hear some singing up ahead. Turning a corner, they find a large white rabbit, standing on its hind legs. The rabbit bounds into the trees and is lost.

The party presses on, and comes across a tall green tower, with a great door. Leaving Hedric, Cyrus and the other teamsters behind, the party knocks at the door, which opens wide by itself. Inside is a landing and a spiral staircase, leading up. The party drags the stone Mendelor and Valerius inside, but leaves them with Coric at the base of the stair. On the second floor is a magnificent landing, with great corridors issuing forth. There is ornate furniture, but the party takes an interest in a great, gilded mirror, whose glass clouds up. The mirror begins to talk, and serves as a host, interrogating the party about their mission, and soon negotiates a deal: the gorgoneum still in a sack at Mendelor's side, in exchange for returning the two hapless adventures to flesh. The party agrees, and returns to the base of the stairs to find Mendelor and Valerius returned to life. Outside, the teamsters and Hedric have left.

By the time the party arrives in Heremac, they reckon that they had spent two weeks in the Tower, although it seemed like only minutes.
