Based in Gwynnon, the party makes for the ogres' cave but stumbles upon a band of hyenanthropes. After a nasty scrape, the party slays all of the abominations. Weakened by the battle, the party returns to Gwynnon, and is attended to by Mara the herb-woman.
The party tries again to find the ogre cave. They set up an ambush, baited by the stopped-up chimney. The party handily disposes of some hyenanthrope lackeys and an ogre. Unfortunately, Valerius reveals that the slain ogre is neither Gnorrin, Glorrin, nor Glogg—but rather a mysterious fourth ogre. The party soon hears roars from the cave entrance and sees Gnorrin and Glorrin wrestling furiously. The party takes advantage of this fracas and launches a surprise attack with missile weapons. The ogres are badly hurt but not killed, and they are soon tearing up the hill after the now frightened party. A fierce battle ensues, and our battered heroes fall back. It is clear that Friar Sidrach cannot keep up, and will soon be captured and presumably eaten by the ogres. Faced with this, the party turns and makes its stand. St. James drops Gnorrin and Glorrin with his arrows, while Glogg is soon felled by the warriors.
Even with the ogres' deaths the adventure is not yet over: hyenanthrope stragglers have barred the door into the caves. The party breaks down the door and pushes through the ogres' lair, eventually coming upon the ogres' treasure-room and several more hyenanthropes. The chief hyenanthrope turns out to be a shaman for some terrible thing that serves the Shaithim. After a hard battle, the party emerges from the caves with treasure and a befuddled stranger named Mot, who seems to take an instant—if inexplicable—liking to Valerius.
