<FrilonDM> STJ : What about all these captives?

<Valerius> And the others go through the roof over to the next house and try to cut them off

<Valerius> Vandoren can guard them

<Valerius> And send us a magic message if in trouble

<FrilonDM> Alright, St. James and Ruik head for the roof . . .

<FrilonDM> M and V stand by the door.

<FrilonDM> Ruik, meanwhile you and StJ are on the roof.

<Valerius> "Beware my Power!"

<Ruik> Cool

<FrilonDM> Mendelor, Valerius begins to utter strange words, and makes weird gestures . . .

<Ruik> I keep an eye on the ground

<Mendelor> I step back

<FrilonDM> The air begins to shimmer . . . you seem to see strange wisps of . . . something arising before the door.

<FrilonDM> The wisps form a hand that moves towards the door . . . opening it . . .

<FrilonDM> Suddenly, a rigged axe chops down through the wisp, and lands harmlessly on the floor.

<FrilonDM> Behind, you see the door opens into a very narrow, dark alley.

<Mendelor> I enter slowly

<Valerius> Light a torch, hand it to my servant and proceed

<Valerius> Staff ready

<Mendelor> Ok

<FrilonDM> Ruik, from the roof you can see that there is a narrow space between this building and the next. You watch as the secret door below opens.

<Ruik> Gotcha, we follow.

<FrilonDM> Mendelor, you step into a narrow space—maybe 3.5' wide. Very dark.

<FrilonDM> Is the servant leading?

<Valerius> I have a torch lit and yes

<Mendelor> I hope so

<FrilonDM> Ruik, you watch as a ghostly torch floats out from the door, enters the alley, and advances. You can see that the alley runs about thirty feet and ends in a blind wall. The alley is completely cut off from the street.

<Ruik> Must be another door somewhere.

<Mendelor> I search for secret doors

<FrilonDM> 1d20.

<Valerius> Me too

<Ruik> We continue to watch.

<FrilonDM> Valerius, you notice a section of the wall, opposite Rud's house, seems strange . . .

<Valerius> If the bad guys are exiting the other building?

<Valerius> I have the servant investigate

<FrilonDM> Ruik, you cannot see anyone leaving from the other building.

<Ruik> Okay

<FrilonDM> The servant presses up against the space in the wall, but the wall does not give.

<Valerius> Then let's have these guys join us (if I have found a door)

<Valerius> Pull?

<FrilonDM> The guys on the roof?

<Valerius> Yes

<FrilonDM> OK.

<FrilonDM> The servant fumbles, then pulls. A narrow door opens in the wall.

<Ruik> We go down.

<FrilonDM> There are some stairs down, leading to a dark, narrow tunnel, about five feet high.

<Valerius> Wait for the others than go down

<FrilonDM> OK, everyone is down on your level.

<Ruik> What's our MO?

<Valerius> Can the servant go first and prod the ground

<FrilonDM> VANDOREN : You want me to stay here alone with these prisoners?

<Valerius> Yes

<Mendelor> I'll go first

<FrilonDM> VD : Alright!

<Valerius> Send us a message if you get in trouble

<FrilonDM> Who is going first—Mend or the servant?

<Valerius> Give the torch to Ruik

<FrilonDM> OK

<Ruik> Okay

<Valerius> And send the servant, prodding as it goes

<FrilonDM> The stairs are narrow and steep, and seem to descend beneath street level.

<Valerius> Then Stj then Mend. Then me, then Ruik?

<FrilonDM> The servant prods the ground, but does not trigger any traps.

<Ruik> Same here.

<FrilonDM> The servant advances down the narrow, cramped tunnel. It's dirty and dusty.

<Valerius> Any sign they have been here Mendelor?

<FrilonDM> Up ahead, the tunnel ends in a closed door.

<FrilonDM> Ruik, the tunnel descends only slightly.

<FrilonDM> It is small, circular, about 8' high and 15' in diameter. It appears empty, save for cobwebs clinging to the ceiling.

<Valerius> Any tracks?

<Mendelor> Do I still see tracks?

<FrilonDM> It's hard to tell exactly what the nature of the party is.

<FrilonDM> It appears that the door is concealed behind a tapestry or wall covering—you are now looking at a big piece of fabric.

<FrilonDM> Yes, and very loud.

<Mendelor> Can we hear what is being said?

<FrilonDM> The door opens up into a large, smoky room, dimly lit by flickering tapers. A sour smell of old, spilled ale assaults you. The room is crowded with maybe three dozen men who are lounging, drinking, and gambling.

<Valerius> Any of our boys?

<Ruik> I motion the others to be still. I listen.

<FrilonDM> Ruik, roll 1d100, please.

<Ruik> 1d100

<FrilonDM> Ruik, behind the door you can hear quite a racket: many different voices, shouting and laughing raucously.

<FrilonDM> Several comely young women work the crowd with full tankards of ale.

<Valerius> Is it busy enough that we could slip in?

<FrilonDM> Over in a far corner, you spy a group of men—they look out of place, but appear to be trying to blend in to the crowd.

<Valerius> Is it our boys?

<FrilonDM> Valerius, it does seem busy enough so that you could slip in.

<Ruik> I try to slip in.

<FrilonDM> There is a thin, hook-nosed man, and a large, fat man.

<Valerius> St James any other ways out of this room?

<Mendelor> I check to see if the tracks have backtracked

<FrilonDM> The things begin descending down the stairs, chittering.

<FrilonDM> Rud & Co turn tail and rush right back down.

<Valerius> Hit'em where it hurts boys

<stjames> I lurch with my dagger
