Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra
The Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra has been a part of the communities around the Androscoggin River in central Maine for many years. The group has played under the baton of Paul Ross for four seasons. Cultural diversity and teamwork are alive and well, and AVCO is proud to be a part of that culture. There is a lot of talent around, and for the people who enjoy performing some of history's best music AVCO offers the chance.
The orchestra is not made up of musicians spending their days studying music and practicing. We count among our members doctors, lawyers, bankers, teachers, preachers, students, and many other occupations. Our days are spent doing many things in our communities, but once a week we come together to rehearse wonderful music.
We get ready for our concerts by rehearsing each Thursday evening for 2 hours from September to June. You can hear us work through the music at Schooner Estates on Stetson Road in Auburn. We perform two concerts each year and play for the annual Messiah Sing Along in December.
To keep an orchestra going requires two things. We need musicians and money. If you want to help with either of these please talk to a member of the orchestra or you can call 782-6249 or email rcrand@gwi.net.
