CHURCH OF OUR FATHER- HULLS COVE, MAINE

52nd ANNUAL DOWN EAST FAIR

 SATURDAY, JULY 17th, 2010

THE 52nd DOWN EAST FAIR

“We did it, one more time!”

Greetings to Our Church Family and Friends of Church of Our Father:

Our 52nd Fair is now history, well sort of, as it takes several weeks to put it to rest. As we write this morning, we are heading to the Church to load up Carroll and Gail Leland’s big truck with all the remaining White Elephants, toys and games that are heading to Goodwill in Ellsworth. This is a happy day as now the large storage trailer may be moved, as well as the dumpster and Porta Potty. These are all behind the scenes arrangements that make our Fair happen each year.

President Obama certainly added interest to the planning of our 52nd Fair.  First, we lost one of our policemen, as he was needed to protect the President and his family staying just two miles from our Fair. All truck and commercial vehicle traffic was rerouted around Route 3, so that was a big help to us and quieted things down. We knew one policeman was not enough, so we tried to hire others from another town. They were all busy too, protecting the airport! In the end, it was our own Tony Hoff who saved the day! He used to be a policeman in another life and stepped up to the plate. On Fair day, he could be found in the middle of Route 3…a very hot job! Thank you Tony, our hero!

We have received many positive emails about our Fair in the last two days. These two are special and we want to share them.

Our friend, Karin Maag writes, “I enjoyed my month in Maine - it was great to spend time with all my friends at Church of our Father, even when the time was spent tying tarps to tent frames, putting up and taking down tables, clambering in and out of basements, under the trailer, up in the shed, etc. We may have become hot and tired, but the bonds of friendship and fellowship between the members and friends of the church shine strongly and continue to impress me.”

From guest worker, Bill Reynolds: “During my morning shift today, I received numerous (perhaps 20) compliments from our guests regarding the organization of the parking activities, i.e. the ease of getting in to the lot, the directions of the parking attendants to the next available spots, the directions of the parking staff as to where the shuttle or walkway was, and some general thanks. Whilst the crowd seemed smaller this year than I have previously experienced, I was pleased to receive the feedback and ask that you forward this on to Brad, Tony and the others involved in the planning and execution of today's activities. I look forward to serving again next year. Thanks and best regards, Bill

The proceeds from the Fair will well exceed $25,000.  We have two pianos to sell to add to the Fair proceeds.

Wonderful effort on an extremely hot day! Your Chairmen send the heartiest thanks to everyone who helped bring the 52nd Down East Fair together. The ready to help attitude and “just always being there” makes all the difference in the world.  You know who you are and we thank each of you!
