S ilver has long played a vital role in the art and economy of Peru. Long before the arrival of the Spanish, the Incas boasted silversmiths renowned for their craftsmanship. Today Peru remains one of the world's leading sources of fine silver, and Silver Peru now brings this silver to America.

After World War II my father, who worked for an American company, was transferred to Lima, Peru. My parents lived in Lima from 1946 to 1956, raising three children along the way. While there they embraced the Peruvian culture, becoming fluent in the language, making many Peruvian friends, and collecting Peruvian paintings, textiles and especially silver.

I grew up around this silver and to this day my father brings home pieces from his travels. For the last ten years or so he has brought home a hammered silver porringer for his grandchildren as each is born. One day it occurred to me that one never saw silver of this quality in the United States, and the idea for Silver Peru was born. (A very fine derivation of the hammered porringer is the Silver Peru Bowl.)

I hope you will enjoy and treasure this wonderful silver as my family has.

The World's Finest Silver
Some of Silver Peru's silver is hand cast or forged and polished, while other pieces are hand hammered from thick rolled sheets. Our silver, all of which is Sterling, is of extraordinary quality, entirely unlike the mass produced and highly machined silver that even the best known U.S. companies routinely sell, and it is very beautiful. While the pieces are highly finished, with nothing "primitive" about them, each has a subtle warmth, weight and character that can be achieved only when Sterling silver is hand worked and hand finished.
