This collection of pastel drawings by Ray
Pontin can be considered from a number of different points of view depending on
your familiarity with: French automotive history; old (mostly) Citroën
cars; general auto mechanics or, hopefully, just pleasing shapes, colors and
textures. These larger than life depictions of old car engines cast a spotlight
on the inadvertent spatial aesthetics created by mechanical designers. Their
functional arrangement of components offers an almost limitless inspiration for
