Horace William Pontin

died Dec. 1973 Waterville, Maine

Imigated to the United States in 1913. Married Minnie Gesner Feb. 25 1914 St Lukes Episcopal Church Allston, MA.

Horace "Jack" Pontin was a railroad engineer on the Birkshire run for the Boston & Albany Railroad. He was a professional photographer and founder of Rail Photo Service of Allston MA.

Bill worked in the ship yards in Rhode Island and later as an air raid warden in Trinidad, Venezuela during WWII. An excellent photographer, he worked as a photo journalist after the war. Later he became general manager in Toronto, Canada for Fine Arts a importer of English bone china.

Ray Spencer Pontin

Married Ruth Elizabeth Hoyt 1942

One daugther Janet Rae.
One son Ray Spencer Jr.

Ray served during WWII in the Army with the 1st Engineer Special Brigade, which was a composite unit that supported assault landings. He participated in five beach landings in North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Italy and was in the sixth hour of the Normandy Landing at Utah Beach. After the war he had a long career with the Gulf Oil Corp. which moved him to Maine.
Both he and his brother, Bill were avid golfers.


A familiar sight to Jack Pontin, was the railway station in Allston.
