Below is a short list of some of the characters other then Aldin
Busheytail that may be encountered at Namakata
- Ash Puffcheeks
- Second Generation, Head of the Council of Elders. Determined to become Aldin's mate
since they first met in 1995, finally won his heart in late 1997 and the two of them had their first
litter in 1998.
- Puffcheeks Busheytail
- Second Generation, eldest of three in Ash and Aldin's first litter. He has trained
extensively for scouting patrol and would like to go elsewhere to help liberate other squirrels. A
POW survivor, he currently serves as commander of the squirrel outpost near Deering Oaks Park
in Portland.
- Hazel Busheytail
- Second Generation, second born of three in Ash and Aldin's first litter. She originally
contemplated going into communications but turned to medicine, complete her medical studies in
1999. Currently, she serves as one of Namakata's doctors after spending a stint as the medical
officer for the Maine Fudds.
- Cloud(chitter)
- Second Generation, third born of three in Ash and Aldin's first litter. Named in honor of
John Clouddrifter, a Micmac medicine man who died helping liberate Namakata in 1995,
Cloud(chitter) is a non-albino white pelted squirrel with an off-white underbelly. He appears to
be extremely intelligent with an eidetic memory and a voracious appetite for learning. He strives
to be a scientist just like his dad and currently oversees most research at Namakata.
- Firbrush
- Fifth Generation by both parents, he is Namakata's chief medical doctor.
- Aldin Oakhurst
- Seventh Generation, born mid-summer '95 and named in honor of Aldin Busheytail.
Considered a hero for he survived a 100+ mile journey by paw to get word to the Fudds in '96
about the rabies epidemic. He hates being called Aldin. Promoted to lieutenant, Oakhurst is now
in charge of all scouts assigned to the Maine Fudd HQ. He is happily mated to Sassafras
SnowPaw (see further below). They had their first litter in 2002.
- Tamarack
- Sixth Generation, born in the spring of 1997. Formally, one of Aldin's pupils, he works in
the lab. He didn't look like he'd cut the grade at first, but has since more then proved himself,
partially thanks to the one-on-one attention provided by Mustard SnowPaw.
- Tasselfur
- Sixth Generation, born in the spring of 1997. She is the sister of Mapletip and Tamarack's
mate. She and Tamarack had their first litter in 1998.
- Mapletip
- Sixth Generation by both parents, born in the spring of 1997. She is/was a nurse in the
warren infirmary. She and Mustard SnowPaw are mates and had a litter of three on Christmas
day,
1999.
- Mustard SnowPaw
- Former snowshoe hare devilbunny who currently works as Aldin's assistant--actually, he
now co-runs the research labs with Cloud(chitter). He was captured by Fudds near the Maine
Fudd base after the Ice Storm of '98. Suffering from severe frostbite, he lost his eartips, the ends
of his rearpaws and his tail. In return for his cooperation, Major Steve Blake spared his life and
sent him to Aldin. Since that time, Mustard has been taking notes on the squirrel warren in hopes
of someday passing the information onto his commander. In late March he volunteered for a
nanite experiment which successfully regrew his tail. Encouraged by this, he volunteered for a
second experiment in early April involving nanites that were suppose to regrow his ear tips.
Thanks to interference by Mapletip, he has converted into a squirrel, but has maintained his
snowshoe hare-style pelt, despite Aldin's best attempts to prevent the conversion. Mustard has
since pledged loyalty to Namakata and looks forward to raising a many more litters with
Mapletip. After Steve Blake's death in Sept. 2000, Mustard declared that what little bun there
still was within him, died with Blake. Mustard is rather large for a 'grey' squirrel with a body
length (sans tail) of 15 inches and a mass of 1 lb 4 onces. In early fall 2001, Mustard received
his Mentat credentials with a concentration in conversion studies from Aldin Busheytail.
- Sassafras
- First born in Mustard's and Mapletip's first litter, she is currently the mate of Aldin
Oakhurst and lives at the Fudd HQ base. She bore her first litter in the spring of 2002. Like her
father, her and her litter mate's pelts change color with the season: Gray with black tips in the
summer, white with black tips in the winter.
- Clipper
- Second born in Mustard's and Mapletip's first litter, Clipper's curiosity got him into
serious trouble at times as he grew up. Early on, it was discovered that he inherited vorpal-sharp
claws from his father. He accepted an assignment to Deering Outpost and survived a stint as a
POW in the early spring of 2002. Since his escape from fluffy clutches, Clipper has been
promoted to Puffcheek's XO at Deering Outpost.
Lady Slipper
- Third born of Mustard's and Mapletip's first litter of kits, Lady Slipper saved her uncle
Joey Snowpaw (bunny) from certain death with her sharpshooting crossbow skills. At the same
time her inability to prevent the death of her great uncle Steve Blake (his daughter, Cathy, is Joey
Snowpaw's mate. Joey is Mustard's brother.) haunts her. She moved to Volo Bog Warren as the
personal guardian of Cathy and Joey. In early 2002, she had a falling out with some of the
leadership at Volo Bog and left. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
- Pinebrush
- Little is known in public about Pinebrush, one of the many squirrel scouts. He arrived at
Namakata not to long before Aldin's return in '97 and is assumed to have escaped from a bun
warren outside of Maine. He's an average shot with a crossbow and shows little initiative. He
keeps to himself when not on patrol and is a carrier of the Squirrelvirus™. Aldin knows he
is really Teral Acorn but has not confronted him directly since the discovery. If Teral ever came
forward and states who he is, he might be offered a position on the Council of Elders out of
respect as it is believed he is at least as old as Aldin Busheytail. Whether or not he would accept
such a position would be up to his author, Aaron Mandelbaum
- Oakleaf
- Fourth Generation, venerable Oakleaf is one of the more vocal members of the Council of
Elders.
- Broadleaf
- Recently retired member of the Council of Elders.
- Ronin (aka Amaeru)
- Squirrel Ronin (Amaeru) is
written by David Barret. Ronin is a master of the Japanese martial art of Bushy Do and
has set-up a dojo at Namakata. Since his arrival, many have learned under him. In late 2000, he
traveled back to Japan to negotiate a deal with the Bunkuza--the leave Namakata alone and he
would agree never to return to Japan. In addition to his duties in his dojo, he serves on
Namakata's Council of Elders, taking over Broadleaf's old branch. He has since passed the
majority of teaching duties at the dojo to others and taken up the position on the council as a
full-time responsibility.
- Elm, Fleet, and Spinney
- All three became quick friends with Ronin and are learning the Art of Bushy-Do under the
martial arts master. They have also helped Sansei Ronin in teaching some of the introduction
techniques in this martial art. All three are written by David Barret.
- Kasumi
- Ronin's mate who returned with him from his recent trip to Japan. Written by David
Barret.
