Buzzy & Nuts pose on the Moxie Falls sign

For the last day of his visit...well their visit now, I took Buzzy and Nuts up to Moxie Falls north of The Forks, Maine. On the way up, they got their photo taken in front of the Indian statue in Skowhegan. Created by the late, Bernard Langlais, a Maine Native, it is the only artwork of its type by him on display in Maine.

The sign below to right of statue reads: Skowhegan Indian This Sculpture is dedicated to the Maine Indians the first people to use these lands in peaceful ways.

An hour later we were at Moxie Falls. Pointless trivia: in one variation of the Abnaki language, Moxie means an elected chief or 'chosen one'.

One of the higher falls in the state, the main fall drops more than 60 feet into the gorge. It is located on Moxie Stream, the outlet to Moxie Lake (see a trend here?). The stream is a tributary to the Kennebec River. From the parking lot, tt's just over a half mile hike (1 km) to the actual falls.

I had to do a little climbing down to get this closer shot of the main drop of the upper falls. This is nothing compared to what awaited us downstream.

The two love squirrels stuck together like glue the entire time and pointed out a few photo opportunities on the way home. Yes, our trees are already showing the first signs of fall colors. Labor Day is here and in Maine that means the end of summer. It's been an interesting couple of weeks. Buzzy was better behaved then I was warned he would be. Maybe he realized I was a true 'squirrel-friend' and behaved because of that. I'll probably miss having him about.

Can you find the two of them in the tree?
