A REAL WINTER!
This was a good old winter that many remember Maine used to have!
What made the snow pile up so deep this winter?
We did not have any big thaw. With no thaw, we kept adding and adding to the snow.
And we were in an active storm track also.

SEBAGO LAKE FREEZE
Sebago froze by late January.
On the 18th, it was almost all frozen.!
It took a few days later to finish the process.
On the 27th, the process was complete.
Ice thickness was 18-24" on the main bay.
While other parts of the lake had up to 34"!
Like any year, it depends where you are.
The lower basin had the most ice.

Fishing derby
In February we had a derby on the lake.
Katie Parker from Sebago won the prize for the biggest togue.!!

SNOW DEPTH
The snow depth was different this winter from other years.
In many winters, the western Lakes region has the deepest snow.
This winter however, even the coast had a lot of snow at times.
While the western hills received the most!
At the max, Douglas Mt. had near 50" of snow on the ground.!!

How much fell?
While we did receive much snow near the lake, the hills really got nailed!
Douglas Mt. had an estimated 140" of snow this winter.
Many of the foothills received 140-165" for the season.
This is much more than the 99" - 100" that N Sebago received!!
********************************
WATER EQUILVALENT
I took snow core readings this winter.
At it's peak, we had some 12" of water content in the snow at the hills (above 700 feet).
While the valley locations had 9" of water content.
We should be happy that we had a slow melt. We could have had a major flood in areas.!

IN MEMORY OF.......

In mid January North Sebago lost a very nice woman.
Marion Nason died.
She was 91 years old.
She and her husband owned and operated Nason's beach for some 40's.
Everyone knew Marion , who would always be walking along the western side of Sebago Lake.
She was a very nice woman. People in North Sebago will miss her.
She was "North Sebago".
