SOUTH WIND WARMTH
Again, this spring we saw a few times when the south wind brought warmer weather to western areas, while the closer to the coast you were, the colder it got. Here in Sebago,Hiram, Fryeburg area, we get a wind that is blown over 50 miles of land in a south wind. This gives this area weather like New Hampshire, while Lewiston gets colder weather in a south wind (Because of the shorter 18 mile distance from the ocean in a south wind.). While the coast got a quick cooling breeze of the 40+ deg. water. Below is a few dates of the south wind influence and the high temperatures:
APRIL 30TH:
FRYEBURG HI=80 F
SEBAGO HI=80 F
GRAY =73 F
LEWISTON=73 F
PORTLAND HI= 71 F
MAY 20TH:
FRYEBURG HI=83 F
SEBAGO HI=83 F
GRAY HI=77 F
PORTLAND=73 F
JUNE 2ND:
FRYEBURG HI=73 F
SEBAGO=71 F
GRAY=65 F
STANDISH=65 F
PORTLAND=62 F
The land breeze is always warmer than the ocean breeze.
(JUST ASK OUR FRIENDS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE!)

SEBAGO LAKE water temp.
The water temp. started very cool. (upper 30's in mid April). By May however: The coves were 58-60 deg. at the surface. During the warmest part of late May, the water in the coves rose to 65-68 deg. within 3 feet. This water temperature was not an "even"temp. : When the NW breeze picked up, the temperature dropped to near 50 deg. in just 1 day. This is nature's way of mixing the water and warming it up! As of May 31, the water temperature was between 58-61 deg. (coves) to 56 deg. offshore.
