Entry: "Back... almost, Elizabeth George, Therapy Culture"

I'm not quite done with my complicated October, but the worst is behind me. Things are looking up a bit.

I did faithfully continue with Elizabeth George. So far I've read A Great Deliverance, Well-Schooled in Murder, Playing for the Ashes, In the Presence of the Enemy, and I've just now started Deception on His Mind. I still maintain that Deliverance is a bit weak, and while Well-Schooled was better, it didn't entirely impress me... but I genuinely loved the last two, and Deception looks to be just as good.

This book review via A&L Daily really appealed to me this morning. The book is about (and called, coincidentally) "Therapy Culture" and how it's a bad thing. A quote from the article (though not from the book itself) :

In a time when social change is off the agenda, therapy culture unites conservatism and radicalism under an umbrella of survivalism. When it is accepted that there is nothing we can do about the circumstances that we live in, the big challenge of the new century becomes helping individuals merely adapt.
Here's an extract from the book.
