I'm still rebelling against adult concerns. After pouting for a couple of days (maybe a week and a half) that there won't be any Mystery on PBS for the month of October, just when I was starting to get addicted to the Inspector Lynley series, I broke down and read the first of Elizabeth George's Lynley books. I haven't read mysteries in a while and had forgotton how really and truly escapist they are. Mystery made me fall in love with Lynley and Havers, and now I'm addicted to the books too. They aren't fine literature, and I don't really give a hoot who killed who, but the main characters are sympathetic and interesting (if a bit obvious), the writing's pretty good, and I've been sucked in entirely.
Replies: 2 comments I was really excited to see that Mystery was doing Inspector Lynley. Honestly, they spent too much time on who killed who and didn't do the characters justice. I'm glad you've found the books. I think George is really a treasure during the current "forensic science is god" trend in mystery books.Posted by Liz @ 10/04/2003 09:48 AM EST The Lynley mysteries are great brain candy. I need to reread some of the earlier ones after I finish the latest. She's an author I can read for hours on end. Unfortunately, I don't know that they are going to do anymore of her books on Mystery! after this bunch. The one with Havers by herself would be very interesting.Posted by laura @ 10/09/2003 06:22 PM EST |
