September 6, 2003 She's Not There: A Life in Two Genders is a fascinating read. The author will be coming to our store for a reading and I'm very much looking forward to it. The book is wonderful... honest, personal, funny and articulate. In addition to it's other good qualities, it features the author Richard Russo prominently, as he and the author have been close for many years. They were teachers together at Colby. So now I think I'll have to check out his books. It's somewhat disgraceful that I haven't already... Not only is he a local figure, winner of the Pulitzer, but Empire Falls is being filmed right here in Maine. So I'll be the last person in the state to have read it. I always have trouble getting excited about the book everyone is reading... just contrary that way I guess...
