(10/08/2002) I've been playing about with Celestia. Dashing about the solar system pulls at my more romantic tendancies. Here's a pretty picture from my travels. Points to anyone who can spot where I am.

Earth should be somewhere in the middle there, shouldn't it? If those are Mars and Venus... hm. I give up. Posted by Fafner @ 10/09/2002 09:18 PM EST You are WAY cold. In fact, THINK cold. :) Posted by Sarazin @ 10/09/2002 09:41 PM EST Uranus and Neptune? But which one's which? And... man, how do they get the pictures so clear? That's amazing. Posted by Fafner @ 10/10/2002 11:58 AM EST I should clarify... these aren't pictures exactly. They're 3 dimensional objects in an OpenGL based rendering program. The textures on the objects are based on sat. data or conjecture. In this case, I believe the front object (Which is Miranda, btw) was photographed by one of the Voyagers, and the texture is based on colorized versions of these photos. That may also be true of Uranus (in the background). Have I mentioned that this is a cool app? Posted by Sarazin @ 10/11/2002 05:43 PM EST |
