Siberian Growth

Siberian standards all say it will take up to 5 years for the Siberian to reach maturity. Here we will follow the growth of Starpoint's Irida Kaliostrovna, my first Siberian, Irida was born on July 22, 1991. She is a brown mackerel tabby Siberian female from one of the first litters born in the United States. Irida was the first Siberian introduced to CFF ( Cat Fanciers' Federation ) on March 8, 1992 to lead the way for this breed to attain Experimental Status and now Championship status in CFF. Irida went on to become CFF's 2nd Best Experimental National in 1992. In 1993 she was again 2nd Best Experimental taking only a back seat to her brother Starpoint's Pascha Kaliostrovich who was Best Experimental. Irida traveled a lot for the next couple of years including a trip to San Antonio, Texas in June of 1993 to be the one of the first Siberians presented to CFA ( Cat Fanciers Association).

Irida at 10 months - please note between 9 to 11 months the Siberian may go through what I call "the teen years" they tend to look very lanky and long. Their coat may all but disappear, but have no fear, they quickly become adults.

Irida at 18 months - as you can see her coat is coming back and she is beginning to look like an adult cat.

Irida still lives with me and turn 10 on her next birthday ( July 2001) - she is a near perfect example of the Siberian breed. Her "type" , temperament and the overall balance of her body presented to the CFF judges exactly what a Siberian should be and paved the way for other Siberians in this association. Irida was altered at an early age due to mammary hyperplasia. Her legacy to the breed will not be in her offspring but in the fact that she was the first Siberian presented to CFF. Irida made her show debut at the Downeast Cat Club show in Kennebunk, Maine in April of 1992.

Irida just celebrated her 10th birthday in June 2001. I want to thank Elizabeth Terrell of Starpoint Cattery for choosing this special girl for me to begin my Siberian adventure.
