Uliana of Comrade (IMP) Blue Lynx Point Female CFF's Best AOV 1996-1997
History Of the Siberian Colorpoint The importation of the first Siberians in 1990 excluded this marvelous pointed patterned cat. All standards in all registries excluded this beautiful Siberian color including their exquisite blue eyes. The colorpoint has been a Siberian and part of the Russian breeding program since records were kept by the various cat fancy clubs in Russia. It is said that feral pointed patterned cats and feral Siberian cats " got together" along the banks of the Neva river in Leningrad ( now St. Petersburg) in the 1960's. Russian breeders began noticing the festive pattern of these cats and began incorporating them into their Siberian breeding programs. The Russians use the nick name " Neva Masquerade" for this color - Neva for the river and masquerade for the coloring. Neva Masquerade is not a separate class of the Siberian but is a true Siberian Cat. No outcross has been used to produce the colorpoint Siberian. This has all occurred in the natural scheme of nature. Being a natural breed of cat anything and everything is possible in the lineage of the breed.
Three breeders of Siberians began to question the existence of this color and why none have ever entered the U.S. The President of " The Aboriginal Russian Cat Club " ( TARC ) a TICA affiliated club began correspondence with these breeders and the first colorpoint Siberians entered the U S in February of 1997, quickly followed by three more colorpoint kittens. Since 1997 many other Siberian breeders have begun to import the colorpoint Siberian. Although controversial at first, all of the US registries have accepted the color in one class or another. CFF and TICA are the last registries still classifying the color as New breed or color. During our first year showing these beautiful colorpoint Siberians, I was honored to be awarded for Uliana of Comrade ( photo above ) the recognition in CFF ( Cat Fanciers Federation) the title of Best AOV National. Comrade Rosa Mischanovna of White's was name Best AOV National in CFF for 99-00 show year. The first litter of colorpoint Siberians was born to the first importer, Dana Osburn of Willowbrook's Cattery in California. We called this litter " eight is enough" as Mom had eight very happy and healthy babies. The colorpoint Siberian also enabled the breeders to open the gene pool of the breed here in the U S adding new lines. Colorpoint carrier litters have been born and will be used in the breeding programs. A colorpoint carrier is a cat that has a pointed parent and a traditional color parent. The kitten is never a colorpoint but carries the gene for colorpoint. Unless bred to another colorpoint or a colorpoint carrier no colorpoint kittens will be produced in the litter. The colorpoint carrier ( CPC ) is registered by the color it exhibits and is shown in the Championship class. I personally want to thank Olga and Aleksey from TARC for their help in importing this wonderful new colorpoint Siberian.
