The world is filled with people who are searching
for a real and meaningful basis for hope. Hope for the present and
hope for the future; hope for the nation for hope for the world. Jesus
Christ - born, crucified, died, buried, raised, and reigning - is
the sure and certain basis for all hope. "No one whose hope is in
You will ever be put to shame…" says the Psalmist. The mission of
Hope Lutheran Church is to preach, teach and witness to the hope that
is available in Christ alone.

A New Congregation in Maine
|
· Remarkably, over the last
40 years, Maine has had only two LC-MS congregations -
Redeemer, Cape Elizabeth and Resurrection, Waterville. Bangor
represents the 3rd largest metropolitan area in Maine - 60,000
people - each one looking for a sure and certain basis for hope.
· In October of 1996, the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville, voted to support the work of developing a new LC-MS congregation in Bangor. That same month, three people from Bangor met with pastor Nielsen in a tiny apartment for bible study and planning. Over the course of 6 months that group grew to 15. · April 6, 1997 began an 8 month bible/doctrine study called "Come and See," held at the Ramada Inn on Sunday evenings. The group continued to grow in numbers and faith. · On February 22, 1998, Hope Lutheran Church held its first worship service around Word and Sacrament at the Ramada Inn - Bangor. · “In October of 2001, Hope Lutheran Church became a chartered congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.” · “We have recently purchased our own building which offers us a wonderful opportunity to become established and grow. We are located at 1520 Union St, Bangor, just 1 mile from the Airport entrance.” · Pastor Nielsen of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection pastors the congregation with the assistance of Vicar Don Colageo. · "We welcome vicar Don Colageo, his wife Deborah and son Daniel to Hope Lutheran Church. Vicar Colageo will begin his service here on July 21, 2002. Vicar Colageo is a “Delayed Vicar” from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He will be eligible for a call into the pastoral ministry in June, 2003.” |
