Things to Do
|
As outdoor enthusiasts, we can recommend a number of off-the-beaten-path trails to secluded beaches and/or bird's-eye ocean views that are within reasonable driving distance. Finally, a local Appalachian Mountain Club boathouse/boat ramp and an island retreat is a short paddle away in our canoe. In addition Reid State Park and the Five Islands' Wharf are located at the end of the Georgetown peninsula, 7 miles from the cottages. The park consists of two beautiful mile-long sand beaches with excellent ocean frontage. The park is equipped with changing/shower facilities, picnic/bar-b-que areas and a food concession. The Wharf, which houses a fisherman's co-op, provides a scenic view of Five Islands and is the perfect informal setting for a steamed lobster dinner. The Robinhood area of Georgetown is centrally located to many of Maine's premiere summer communities and their attractions -- Freeport (26 miles - 35 minutes), Brunswick/Bailey Is./Orrs Is. (17mi. - 25 mins.), Bath (7mi. - 10 mins.), Wiscasset (16mi. - 25 mins.), Boothbay Harbor (28mi. - 35 mins.), Camden (50mi. - 1 hour.), and Portland (42mi. - 50 mins.). A comprehensive listing of points of interest is contained in the sidebar. The shopping centers in Bath and the Cook's Corner Shopping Mall between Bath and Brunswick provide a full compliment of consumer services. Brunswick has full service medical/hospital facilities. A wide variety of restaurants can also be found in Georgetown, Bath, and Brunswick.
