Damage & Loss Surveys are primarily done on behalf of marine
insurance companies and involve investigation and evaluation of
marine casualties and claims. Marine Surveyors have had strong
ties to the marine insurance industry dating back to the earliest
days of shipping, and are relied upon to provide the claims
department with the necessary information to quickly and fairly
settle marine claims, from small boat and yacht claims on up to
major shipping casualties. This information includes, at a
minimum, a description of the vessel, an appraisal of the extent of
damage, anticipated reasonable cost of repairs, any subrogation
potential, and the proximate, or exact, cause of the loss.
