The natural revegetation of the shoreline of Messalonskee Stream since
the summer of 2001 has been nothing short of remarkable. This photo was
taken one half mile above the former Union Gas Dam on 9 June 2003. The young
black locust trees in the foreground are nearly three feet tall. Prior to
June 2001, the area where these trees are growing had been under ten feet
of water for a century.
