We noticed that during the last two years, Messalonskee Stream has thoroughly
scoured itself down to its original bed and channel. The height of the former
dam impoundment is the tree line in the photo above. The pool in the center
of this photo is over 15 feet deep and has become an ideal holding area
for adult Atlantic salmon. Several spring seeps flow into this pool from
the left bank. The bridge over Messalonskee Stream at Kennedy Memorial Drive
in Waterville can be seen in the far background of this photo.
