Desecration of the Kennebec River -- Spring 2004

For decades, gravel pit operators have chewed away the entire
hillside along the river, but have usually left a tiny 'beauty strip' of
trees along the river bank.
In spring 2004, they decided destroying
99 percent of the river bank was not enough, and proceeded to destroy all
of the river bank to procure a few extra bucket loads of gravel.
