Striper anglers motor to Coons Rips and the site of the former Edwards Dam in Augusta at high tide on the first evening of the first summer of the new millenium. The steeple of St. Augustine's Church, whose bells were rung to begin the breaching of the dam last July 1st, is seen in the upper left. The dam crossed the Kennebec River near the building in the upper right of the photo. The sprawling site of the former Edwards Cotton Mill is located behind the granite wall on the left. Within several years this site will be a riverfront and historical park.

The head of Coons Rips, a few hundred feet above the site of the former Edwards Dam, Augusta, June, 2000. This photo looks downstream to the city of Augusta and is the area the boaters in the photo above were headed to. The railroad trestle in the background of this photo is the spot where the photo above was taken.
