Two sea winter female Atlantic salmon digging a redd in upper reaches
of Bond Brook, Augusta, Maine in late October, 1998.




This is the same spawning area as the photo above but viewed from the opposite bank.

The lower arrow points to a two sea-winter male driven off the redd.

The upper arrow shows the redd with the female and dominant male.

At this site, more than 10 precocious male parr were observed near the redd.

All adults were approx. 30 inches in length.


This Bond Brook spawning area and several others a mile upstream are rarely surveyed for juveniles or redds due to the remote location (approx. 1 mile from nearest road).
