All Of Us
I Love You
Geffen
Now that's what I like to hear. A decent hard rock band with more on their minds than fast cars and pretty women with big boobs. I Love You are one of those rarities. This, their second effort, reminds me of the first Aerosmith album. Y'know, bluesy, electric/acoustic tunes that grab you by the short hairs and refuse to let go. We ain't talkin' grunge here folks. This is the real thing. Positive tunes played from the soul are wound up into one hell of an all out jam. (Riffs akimbo in a major key, no less.) Thirteen cuts and not a clunker in the bunch. The diverse musical backgrounds of vocalist Christopher Palmer ('70s rock) and guitarist Jeff Nolan (blues music) account for one part of the fresh, yet familiar sound. The other ingredient is an unusual songwriting style. Songs aren't written in the conventional sense. The band jams for hours, records the sessions for Palmer who then writes the lyrics while he's swept up by the groove. Needless to say, it works. The music has a life of its own and the four guys in I Love You are a real band. (One hell of a band at that.) (SC)
