- Bayou Blood
- Kenny Neal
- Alligator
- The fourth album from a blues artist who's been performing
professionally for 17 of his 30 years. Equally talented on several
instruments, he played with Buddy Guy and led a couple bands
before going solo. His fluid guitar and harmonica style provides
a rich backdrop for a growling baritone voice. (BB)

- In The Here And Now
- Tracy Nelson
- Rounder
- With her first new album in over a decade, Nelson returns
with a fine collection of blues classics. Charlie Musselwhite
and Irma Thomas climb aboard for a couple cuts and there's also
a new version of "Motherless Child Blues" which first
appeared on her 1965 debut, Deep Are The Roots . (CS)

- Hot Music For A Cold Night
- Nine Below Zero
- I.R.S.
- A blues band from London? What's up with that? (Especially
these days.) Rory Gallagher's former bassist and drummer, Brendan
O'Neill and Gerry McEvoy respectively, are on board for the long,
hard ride. Alannah Miles contributes steamy vocals to the classic,
"I Never Loved A Man." These guys can really cook.
Yummy. (BB)

- Noa
- Geffen
- She was raised in New York City yet, she's the most popular
contemporary singer in her native Israel. (Go figure.) This (U.S.)
debut was produced by Pat Metheny and features many of his collaborators
and peers. Sophisticated pop with jazzy undertones. Listen to
this with the lights down low. (CS)

- PowerNorth Star
- Space Monster
- Optional Entertainment
- These guys sound like old Genesis. There's nothing wrong
with that. It sure beats sounding like the current Genesis. Musically
and lyrically intricate, this disc is thoroughly enjoyable and
highly listenable. You can order it by mail from: S.P.O.E. P.O.

- Chicken Rhythms
- Northside
- Geffen
- Optimistic, jubilant songs about real life played with an
enthusiastic, youthful, abandon by this four piece band from
Manchester, England. Their sound is not unlike several other
groups currently invading these shores. For example check out,
"Take 5" and "Weight Of Air." Their only
difference is a positive attitude. (SC)
