unaired second season

The movies
part two

Until this year, the legend of Peter's Angels stated that after the first season, which only aired accidentally in Guam, there were no subsequent episodes produced. However, earlier this year, a scrap of paper was found in a diary at a garage sale, which noted production having commenced on the second season of Peter's Angels. This set in motion a series of events that culminated in the discovery of the reels for the heretofore unknown episodes in an old fallout shelter on a back lot at the studio, which was last used during the filming of an episode of the short lived series, Holmes and Yoyo.

The second season of Peter's Angels was quite different from the first. Though the series had never aired, technically it had been cancelled. However, Erin Spelling, (Aaron's crafty younger sister), was able to talk the studio into funding a second season of the show, though she had to make some concessions due to the failure of the first show.  The studio was in the midst of their Saturday-Morning-Live-Action-Show phase, and decided that Peter's Angels would be a great addition to their new line up. This made absolutely no sense as the show was based on detectives who carried guns, wore Peter Criss makeup, and played garage/punk music. But studio executives were excited about the prospect of a having a band on a Saturday morning show. Unfortunately, they believed the band would sound like the Archies, and envisioned millions of pre-teens and teens swaying along to sickly sweet bubblegum music which had long been the staple of 1960s and early 1970s cartoons.

Peter's Angels second season was supposed to be broadcast on Saturday mornings as part of the Goodtime Happy Hour, which revolved around three teens who lived in a tree and were dedicated to watching their two favorite shows. The first one was Peter's Angels, now titled Here Come The Angels!  The second show called Look Out Below, was a moralistic show about young criminals, a looney cult master, and a giant bear. The three teens were arguably the hosts of the program as their segments not only opened and closed the show, but they were also seen in between the two different programs. Although they lived in a tree, it was never explained how they got electricity to view the programs. Nor was it explained how the inside of the kids treehouse, which from the outside looked as it if were a crudely built one room shack, had five rooms, an elevator, and a swimming pool.

Even though the studio believed they would make a huge profit on the record sales and merchandising of the show, they were nervous about the lack of success for the first season. Therefore, they decided that the show would feature the same cast, but they would not invest any money in production. The shows were filmed on a bare bones budget, ensuring many bloopers making it to air. The director of the show - a protégé of William "One Take" Beaudine best known for his movie, Billy the Kid vs Dracula - took the show to new depths of economy, directing the band to sing into magic markers strapped to broomsticks when the show did not have the money to purchase microphones and mic stands. In one episode, there were even crudely drawn cardboard kids that comprised most of the audience at a concert.

The plot of Peter's Angels was toned down for the Saturday morning viewers and made even less realistic than it had been before.  The Angels traveled around the US in a large RV, towing behind them a flying submarine, which could help them go underwater or into outerspace, if the situation called for it.  Each week there was a new mystery to solve and a song or two by the band.

Here Come the Angels!
The Unaired Second Season
Saturday Morning Show

The newly discovered shows are remarkable for two reasons - the incredibly horrible scripts and the unbelievable mistakes in the shows.

Hail to the Chef's Surprise The Angels find that a cooking contest is no place for a rock band to be. When an oven is rigged to explode if the temperature falls below 400 degrees, the Angels must solve the mystery of the exploding pineapple pie.
Mistakes:
  1) It is clear to see that the oven is made out of spray painted cardboard.  2) Obvious stock footage is used for the cooking contest. Neither the room nor the contestants look the same in the close ups.
The Juggling Shark Is on a Roll Tonight  When an undercover officer disappears on his way to the aquarium, the Angels are called in to protect Sparky the Shark, the aquariums lovable firestarting mascot.
Mistakes:
  1) As there was only enough money to make a head for Sparky the Shark, the actor playing Sparky was not supposed to be filmed below the shoulders. However, in one scene "Sparky" can be seen standing in the background wearing an "I'm with Stupid" tshirt, Tweety Bird pajama bottoms, and giant clown shoes.
Rocknroll and the Insane Falling Gorilla   When a giant gorilla escapes from a cage -- which has accidentally fallen out of a plane and landed in a local park --  the Angels must find the gorilla before it tears the heads off everyone who is wearing a yellow windbreaker while riding a unicycle.
Mistakes:
  1) Far shots of the gorilla were obviously a man in a gorilla costume, while close ups of the face were a very unconvincing gorilla head made by local junior high school students.
The Hearse on Doomsday Island  After the Angels are stranded on what appears to be a deserted island, they find that they are not alone, and must struggle to defeat a troupe of waltzing funeral directors.
Mistakes:
  1) The waltzing funeral directors are totally out of step. They had only been given instructions on how to waltz minutes before shooting began, and were never given a chance to practice dancing as a troupe. 2) While the Angels are supposed to be alone on an island, you can see a road with cars driving by in the background.
Death From the Past and an Order of Fries to Go  After two Nazi officers are revived from suspended animation,  the Angels must make good use of their flying sub to stop the nefarious Nazis from taking over the world.
Mistakes: 1) When the Angels are supposedly flying in the sub, a crew member can be seen walking by one of the porthole windows. 2) The smoke in the suspended animation tanks came from dry ice in buckets, which can be clearly seen in the corner.
The Shadowmen Sure are Creepy... But Can They Dance  When creatures from another solar system invade a small town off the coast of California, a psychic insists that the sinister beings are actually under the power of the Angels and a warrant is issued for the Angels arrest.
Mistakes:
  1) The costumes for the creatures from outer space are so poor that they are reduced to wearing pins that read, "we're creatures from outer space."
The Case of the Translucent Wax People  A clown is replacing all the inhabitants of Giantville with wax replicas, and no one seems to notice until the Angels pull into town for the rocknroll contest.
Mistakes:  1) While the towns inhabitants are supposed to be unable to tell that people are being turned into wax replicas, the replicas look nothing like the people they are replacing.  In fact, they all look like Joe Namath.  2) The contestants in the rocknroll competition consist of the Angels, Lee Majors singing Feelings, and Joe Namath smiling and holding a football while a band plays an instrumental version of Hey Joe.  3)  No one notices that all the wax replicas look just like the third contestant in the rocknroll contest.
There is No Escape From Death and The Fossilmen  When rock monsters start vandalizing the neighborhood, they are surprised by the Angels who are trying to find a sanitarium for Rocky Munroe.
Mistakes:
  1) The rock monsters throw rocks that are obviously made of styrofoam. As paint was running low,  the rocks were poorly painted.  A few were not painted at all, but were stenciled with the word "rock".  2) When the Angels sing at the end of the show, every other kid in the audience is made out of cardboard. The kids in the back rows were not even cut out in kid shapes, but were just drawn on a sheet of cardboard with a black marker.
Heat Monster In a Top Hat When a ventriloquist melts while doing his act, the Angels suspect the dummy in the monocle and top hat is not as innocent as he appears to be.
Mistakes:
  1) When the ventriloquist melts, you can see the styrofoam head underneath the goo.  2) The melting effect was so expensive that it comprises one fourth of the footage in the show and becomes incredibly boring to watch.
It's Got a Good Beat and It's Easy to Dance To... Unless You're Dead When Rocky Munroe disappears on vacation, the Angels hire detectives to make sure he is not found alive, while they try to solve a murder at a dance contest.
Mistakes:
  1) The footage of dancers is taken from several episodes of CHiPs and Erik Estrada can be seen in some close up shots.  2) In one scene the Angels only have white face as they had run out of black makeup to make the Peter Criss cat markings.  3) The audience at the dance contest is mostly made out of cardboard, and almost no attempt was made to disguise this fact.
Newly Found Movie-
Space Rockers : This newly discovered "masterpiece" was an unaired movie that was made during the final days of Peter's Angels.  Still using the Peter's Angels concept, the movie was at the forefront of the outer space craze of the mid to late 1970s. The story takes place on an orbiting satellite called Musicworld where the rock group, Peter's Angels, prepares for a concert which will be beamed to the youth of the entire galaxy.  The unsuspecting band is unaware that their evil manager, Rocky Munroe, is using the broadcast to control the minds of billions of youngsters causing them to riot and destroy their planets. When Peter Criss infiltrates Musicworld, Rocky Munroe tries to hypnotize one of his assistants into killing Criss before he can stop the deadly performance. Rocky Munroe is once again played by the Sonny Bono.
