| The Pelican Nebula is a large region of nebulosity, dust and stars in the constellation Cygnus. Its distance is 4000 light years away from us so a photograph is about as close as you will get anytime soon. It is invisible to all but long exposure photography, but appears bright and detailed in photographs. This picture of the Pelican Nebula was cropped from a larger image of both the North American and Pelican Nebula. The image was taken in my back yard in Wells, Maine. Two 60 minute exposures on E200 slide film, taken with an IDAS Light Pollution Suppression filter, were combined in Picture Window. Levels were adjusted in Photoshop. The E200 film was pushed 2 stops when developed to help bring out the nebulousity. | ||||
