Why do we exist?
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and
in truth” (John 4:24, NIV).
We believe that Scripture is clear in explaining why the church exists.
The church exists to exalt and worship God (see above) as well as to reach
people for Christ (see below). The Goodwins Mills Advent Christian
Church keeps these Biblical mandates at the heart of all it does.
We seek to worship God with our daily living, singing, prayer and the
study of His Word.
We seek to reach people for Christ by:
-
Finding ways to reach those outside of the church and without faith in
Jesus Christ as Savior (the One and only way to God) and Lord (ruler or
director). Jesus said in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to
seek and to save what was lost” (NIV).
-
Building believers in the Christian faith. Jesus told His people
in Matthew 28:20, “ . . . [Teach] them [believers] to obey everything I
have commanded you . . .” (NIV).
-
Sending mature Christians into the world to repeat the process. Jesus
said in Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit . . .” (NIV).
Further, being an Advent Christian congregation, we feel we should
emphasize the following Biblical teachings that define our uniqueness:
-
The Second Advent of Jesus Christ;
-
Holy Living;
-
The Resurrection;
-
Conditional Immortality;
-
Evangelism;
-
Betterment of Society;
-
Stewardship; and
-
Self-control.
