My Funny Valentine

From Miles Davis

Miles and miles ahead,
with a piercing cry
from the gold horn.
Black face painted blue,
blue, and bloodied red.

The poet reading

Last month, I was privileged
to read my poetry at the University;
however, it was an embarrassment
for Our Literature.

Police had to arrest a young woman
for Conduct Unbecoming a Poetry Lover.

You see, the woman danced wildly
as I read, screaming like a banshee,
and she threw her red silk panties at me.

I was appalled. It was humiliating.

It was such a nerve-shattering experience
I needed an extra valium after the reading.

I still have her red silk panties.
