On Sunday May 2nd, and continued on May 9th, the Adult Forum of First Congregational Church of Ellsworth together with Pax Christi Acadia featured James Harney, well known speaker on third world problems. Harney's multimedia presentation focused on the root causes of hunger.

James Harney, a former Catholic priest, has recently returned from six weeks in Argentina on one of his many visits to troubled areas of the world that include Mexico, Colombia, Central America and Iraq.

This popular photojournalist has informed and challenged audiences throughout New England and other parts of the USA. He co-founded Posibilidad, a nonprofit organization based in Bangor dealing with issues of poverty.

Jim Harney's presentation on May 2nd helped kick off the Hancock County CROP Walk for Hunger which unites churches in the area in raising funds for local need at the Emmaus Center and Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, and world relief. See below for photo and brief story. May 9th's meeting was a follow up to the CROP Walk and help further our understanding of the causes of poverty, especially in developing countries.

The Adult Forum meets each Sunday at 8:15 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments are served. There was no admission charge - an offering for Posibilidad was received.

Cathi Goebel, coordinator for the Hancock County effort that included participants from seven different area churches, reported that together they raised $4500 to help stop hunger locally through Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and abroad through Church World Services.
