Maryann Anglim, R.N., B.S.N. lives in Bath, Maine, with her husband and daughters. A graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, she works as an operating room nurse. As Kara's mother she brings an intimate and medically informed view of what it means as a parent to confront Long QT syndrome. In her open and direct writing style she chronicles her daughter's brush with death and subsequent rehabilitation with sensitivity, courage and wisdom. Kara Mia is her first book.

Walter Allan, M.D. is a pediatric neurologist who has practiced in Portland, Maine, since 1978. He has researched and published numerous medical articles and has been a special consultant to Time-Life Books in the field of pediatric neurology. His expertise in the fields of brain injury and coma allows the reader to understand Kara's predicament and the difficulities the Anglims face. As Kara's story unfolds and it becomes obvious that Long QT syndrome accounted for her cardiac arrest, Dr. Allan weaves into his portions of the book the most up-to-date information on this insidious genetic disorder.
